Well the last 3 years have been very challenging - not least of all as I lost my husband in April 2017 to cancer. Petar was an integral part of our hobby of breeding and showing dogs - he did the heavy work so changes had to be made. This took a while to get into place but was managed with the help of Placement Students.
Moving on we had great success with our dogs - Leo, Chilli and Dexter winning at Open and Breed Championship shows and Chilli and Leo qualifying for Crufts - with Chilli - our own home bred girl being placed at VHC in Mid Limit bitch at Crufts 2020.
The Animal Welfare Regulations, introduced in October 2018 have proved to be challenging for a large number of hobby breeders - we have now teamed up and created Home Breederes Group - we are challengng Cuncil's decision to prosecute us hobby breeders instead of focusing on those horrendous breeders who are breeding purely for money. I myself am being prosecuted for (1) noise after several complaints from neighbours who then failed to attend Cour to substantiate their alleged issues and (2) for alleged breeding without a licence under the new Regulations - this despite DEFRA publishing guidelines in April 2019 spelling out the nature of a hobby breeder. Naturally I am defending this as I have always been a professional individual - doing everything 'by the book'. It's shocking the waste of tax payers money - the outcome will be posted here.
Today we have been through 10 weeks of lockdown - I had to foster 4 of my dogs out to friends as my health is poor and I was unable to look after the dogs without assistance from my team of helpers who - as they were entitled to - self-isolated and stayed with their families. Now as lockdown is slowly lifted, support is back so the dogs are coming back too.
Therefore it's been challenging - my aim is to reduce the number of dogs - we will be showing as soon as our hobby opens up again and we will be aiming to breed a perfect Bulldog or Pug. Thank you to all the Finstar Kennels supporters - you must also support our breeds - no non-recognised colous or cross breeds - the breed standard and health of our breeds are very important - we must keep the standards high.
