Finstar Kennels were thrilled to invite the University of Cambridge BOAS Research team to our home on Tuesday 15 December 2015. I had met the team at a Kennel Club Seminar in the Autumn and head heard a presentation on the Research and when they had said that they were willing to travel if there were more than 10 dogs to survey - I took the opportunity to invite them. I also invited students from St Helens College Animal Management Team and the local newspaper. I was ably assisted by the wonderful Siobhan Marsh, a student at St Helens College, who worked like a Trojan throughout the day.
And so they came.... we had a fantastic turn out from the following friends and Breeders:
Myself - we tested 5 bulldogs and 2 pugs from my team.
Gail from Mizpabulls with Gucci
Mark from Cromysway with Gertie, Tilly and Isaac
Carmen from Bouncealot with Regina
Sue and Ste Williamson from Skabeat Bulldogs with Thor and Flump
Shane and Patsy with my self-bred girl Roxy (sired by Maximus)
and the wonderful Ann from Teasteltail Pugs
The programme went very well - the Cambridge team worked hard all day - and with two chambers - one for bulldogs and one for pugs - were able to get through a total of 13 bulldogs and 4 pugs. The results will benefit them - our girl Marina pug has the accolade of being the Research team's 800th dog to be tested.
We are thrilled to have been part of this fascinating study - to be able to say that all our breeding stock have been put through their tests - with no surprises. To all our friends who joined us - we are committed to the wellbeing of our animals and if we can help with any research to improve the breed then we are happy to help.
